EndNote at Rowan University: Groups & Sharing

Guide to Using EndNote for students, faculty, and staff at Rowan University

New EndNote 21 Web

EndNote 21, the latest version of EndNote, only works with a new version of the online or cloud based version of EndNote called EndNote 21 Web.

  • Older versions of EndNote, such as EndNote 20, are NOT compatible with EndNote 21 Web and must continue to use the older versions of the web based EndNote Online.
  • This section of the guide only pertains to the old version EndNote Online and will be revised at a later date.

For help using the online versions of EndNote contact Kevin Block (kblock@rowan.edu) at the Rowan-Virtua SOM Health Sciences Library.

Creating Groups

Creating Groups

Groups provide a nice way to organize your citations and group together citations on a similar topic or citations for a certain project.

1.    Select the Organize tab from the top of the screen, and then click on Manage My Groups.

2.    From this page, you can create, rename, or delete groups.

Sharing

Sharing Citations

Groups can be shared with anyone that has an EndNote Basic account. Free EndNote Basic accounts are available to anyone. The person you share your group with will not receive an email, but they will see the shared group when they are logged into EndNote Basic

1.    Select the Organize tab from the top of the screen, and then click on Manage My Groups.

2.    You’ll notice there is a column with options for sharing. Check the box next to Share and then click the Manage Sharingbutton.

3.    You can allow people to view your citations, or you can allow them full access to the group using the Read & Write option. Be aware that if you allow someone Read & Write access, they can add, delete, and modify the citations in that group. You can modify or turn off sharing at any time.
