There has been an increasing reliance on teams built from a variety of healthcare specialties that come together to care for patients. The best teams provide constant encouragement and feedback, stand by each other during difficult and good times, and are interdependent on each other's skills, capabilities, talents, and resources. Teams that can do many different tasks well are usually the best teams.
A team's effectiveness is defined by evaluating whether a team achieves its goals.
High-Performing Teams:
Teams need to explicitly define what their goal(s) will be and what tasks will be accomplished and by whom. There should be clear expectations as to the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitude each member should have before they are selected for the team. And, leaders need to choose an appropriate size for the team to ensure its success.
