Clearing the Air: A Community Research Guide on Air Quality and Respiratory Health

What is this guide and who is it for?

This guide is intended to inform and empower Camden residents and visitors on the dangers, health effects, and environmental health justice issues that exist in the city of Camden, New Jersey.

Welcome to the Camden Environmental Education Certificate Program, conducted by Rowan University’s Community Planning + Visualization Lab, in partnership with Cooper Medical School Library, Rowan University Green Job Academy, and Camden Community Partnership.

The program offers
eight community workshops—five developed in 2025 with support from the U.S. EPA, and three developed in 2021 with support from the National Library of Medicine (NLM), National Institutes of Health (NIH). The workshops cover topics including air quality, urban greening, and the public health impacts of environmental issues, and are intended for all Camden, NJ residents and stakeholders. While the workshops are open to everyone, some are especially suited for family viewing, health care professionals, and educators.

If you are enrolled in our Environmental Education Certificate Program, you are asked to watch the five most recent workshops and are encouraged to view the earlier three as well. All program participants are required to take an online quiz (https://forms.gle/4HXtejefHzJW75La9) for certificate eligibility.
