Racism in Medicine Faculty Development Resources and Toolkit: Home

Introduction

Welcome to the CMSRU Racism in Medicine Faculty Development Guide. This guide includes Faculty Development Resources and a Faculty Development Toolkit.

The toolkit consists of engaging resources which appeal to various learning styles of individuals such as videos, audio recordings, peer reviewed articles, and glossaries. These resources were divided into categories utilizing a framework rubric based on Bloom’s Taxonomy of cognitive learning.

The objectives of this guide are as follows:

  1. To identify and address knowledge gaps related to racism and racial inequality in medicine through a self-directed faculty assessment and knowledge-level-specific resources.
  2. To provide a toolkit to assist faculty members with the implementation of changes to the medical education curriculum to address issues of racism and racial inequality in medicine.

To complete the guide:

  1. Complete the pre-survey. This is not required to access the resources but will help us understand the utility and effectiveness of this toolkit. Please do not take the pre-survey after you have accessed any of the resources in the toolkit.
  2. Self-select a Faculty Development Resources category using the graphic below. Take a moment to reflect on whether your knowledge of racism in medicine falls into an “Introductory” category or an “Intermediate” category.
  3. Read, listen and watch resources in your self-selected category.
  4. Review the toolkit and utilize the resources when creating and updating your educational materials.
  5. Be on the lookout for a post-survey.

Creation of this guide was supported by an Educational Scholarship grant from the International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE).
