CSLL - Community Service Learning and Leadership: Year 1

A guide to the longitudinal partnering with AHEC for students to work with the underserved populations and learn leadership skills while conducting a much needed community service.

Year 1 Objectives

By the end of Year 1 students will:

  1. Understand the importance of having difficult conversations.
  2. Become familiar with emotional intelligence.
  3. Deconstruct professionalism in healthcare.
  4. Understand implicit bias and how it impacts healthcare delivery.
  5. Examine how meaning is derived from self identities, culture, and others.
  6. Understand systematic oppression and how it contributes to health disparities & how students can start to close those gaps.
  7. Become familiar with the 4 Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice for effective team based care.
  8. Understand Social Disparities of Health - SDOH - and how they affect a patient's overall health.
