CSLL - Community Service Learning and Leadership: Cultural Humility

A guide to the longitudinal partnering with AHEC for students to work with the underserved populations and learn leadership skills while conducting a much needed community service.

Cultural Humility

Cultural humility involves an ongoing process of self-exploration and self-critique combined with a willingness to learn from others.

It means entering a relationship with another person with the intention of honoring their beliefs, customs, and values.  Using both your background knowledge of a specific population's experiences combined with the process of learning in real-time.

It means that you work to redress the power imbalance inherent in the patient/doctor dynamic and developing mutually beneficial partnerships with various communities.

It means that you are never done learning.

PAR
