CSLL - Community Service Learning and Leadership: Year 2

A guide to the longitudinal partnering with AHEC for students to work with the underserved populations and learn leadership skills while conducting a much needed community service.

Year 2 Objectives

By the end of Year 2 students will

  1. Apply Year 1 concepts and culturally responsive frameworks to standardized patient encounters.
  2. Reflect on one's ability to engage with patients from underserved communities using culturally responsive framework.
  3. Develop knowledge and understanding of experiences of medical underserved populations. 
  4. Build empathy and skills for interacting with patients. 
  5. ID state and local agencies that provide services that assist in decreasing identified health disparities and gaps. 
  6. Describe collective approaches and individual responsibilities to reduce disparities.
  7. Understand importance of developing partnerships with community leaders, organizations, health providers, and residents when developing a needs assessment.
  8. ID and utilize appropriate methods in community and public health assessment
  9. Synthesize and develop means of presenting multiple sources of data that describe the experience of a local underserved community, their health issues, considerations for care, and recommendations for action.
