Guide to Using EndNote for students, faculty, and staff at Rowan University

Step by Step Direct Export from Web of Science

Perform your search in Web of Science. 

  • Check the checkboxes located next to each reference that you want to send to EndNote.

Select citation from Web of Science

  • Click the Export button, and from the options select EndNote Desktop or EndNote Online to send selected citations whichever version of EndNote you wish.

  • Click the Export button to download the citations


Internet browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.) works differently when exporting and downloading. In newer versions of Chrome look in the upper right of the browser window for the Downloads icon.

  • Once the file has completed download click the Downloads icon to display recently download files. 
  • Click the file name to send the downloaded Web of Science citation(s) to EndNote.

To bypass having to click on the downloaded file in the future right click on the downloaded file and select Always open files of this type. Now when clicking the Create file button referenced above the PubMed references will directly be sent to EndNote.

The Web of Science citations will be exported into an open EndNote Library, and placed in EndNote’s Imported References group.
