To export citations from CINAHL or another EBSCOhost database such as Academic Search Premier perform your search and save the references to the folder that is provided for printing/saving/emailing multiple citations.
Click the folder icon to save the citation
To add all citations in a search to the folder use the options under the Share menu.
To access the citations in the Folder use the link on the right hand side of your screen labeled Go to: Folder View.
Once viewing citations in the folder either check the checkbox to the left of each citation to select it, or check Select/Deselect All to select all citations in the Folder. Once the appropriate citations have been checked click Export link/icon located above the first citation.
On the next screen make sure the Direct Export in RIS Format (e.g. CITAVI, EasyBib, EndNote, ProCite, Reference Manager, Zotero), radio button is selected to send to the desktop version of EndNote (default). If you want to send your citations to EndNote Online select Direct Export to EndNote Web.
Internet browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.) works differently when exporting and downloading. Using Chrome based browsers the downloaded file will appear in a bar at the bottom of the browser. Other browsers may work differently. Note Apple’s Safari browser may not be compatible with EndNote
Click on the downloaded file to import the citations into EndNote.
To bypass having to click on the downloaded file in the future click the small arrow next to the downloaded file and select Always open files of this type. Now when clicking the Save button referenced above the CINAHL citations will directly be exported to EndNote.
The CINAHL citations will be exported into an open EndNote Library, and placed in EndNote’s Imported References group.
