Announcements

  • 2024 Rowan-Virtua SOM Faculty Development Needs Assessment
    • Thank You!
We received responses from 79 Paid Faculty members and 58 Volunteer Affiliate Faculty members. I'll be analyzing the responses that have been received over the next two weeks, but I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for taking a few minutes and providing me (and COCA) with valuable input.
  • Rowan-Virtua SOM Gold Humanism Honor Society
Posted on behalf of Rowan-Virtua SOM's Student Services Office
    • From announcement: "In 2004, recognizing a strong commitment to promote compassionate care and professionalism that treats the whole patient, not just the symptoms, SOM became the first osteopathic medical school in the country to host a chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS). Your help is needed to identify faculty who you believe best embody the values of humanistic medicine. Election to the Society is based on the evaluation of your peers in combination with excellence in academics, leadership, and service. Membership to GHHS is considered an honor and is for life. The GHHS has a growing number of chapters and national activities, including seminars, which will support further professional growth. Members of Rowan-Virtua SOM's GHHS will participate in a community service project.
The selection process is straightforward: Please complete the on-line survey with the names of your faculty peers who possess the qualities that best demonstrate the practice of humane medicine. Based on your feedback, two faculty members will be selected to be inducted into the Rowan-Virtua SOM Gold Humanism Honor Society. You will also be asked to nominate a student member from the class of 2025 for this honor."

Institutional research is a broad category of work done at colleges (and across colleges within a profession) to inform decision-making and planning. While collaborative, multi-institution research studies are desirable, the grant could support a pilot study or serve as the basis for seeking matching funds at individual institutions. Proposals pertaining to technology or artificial intelligence (AI) are of importance this year. Additionally, topics related to workforce issues—such as the implications of the expansion of osteopathic medical colleges, branch campuses, additional teaching sites, and class sizes—are of continued interest."

Still, they do not necessarily have the tools to address them. Additionally, when reviewing the literature of the biomedical sciences, medical education, and medical and biomedical practice, the existence and impact of microaggressions are often cited as a challenge facing both educational and professional settings."
